Samsung a3 screen resolution. Review of Samsung Galaxy A3 – a compact smartphone with moisture protection. Samsung Galaxy A3 SM-A320F: technical specifications

01.10.2021 Hypertension

Samsung continues to regularly update the most popular families of its smartphones, and at the beginning of 2017 it introduced the updated A line. We will do reviews of the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) a little later, but now let's look at the most affordable, and in at the same time - the most compact model from the updated family - Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) SM-A320F.

Galaxy A3 (2017) design and controls

New episode Galaxy smartphones A 2017 replaced the extremely popular devices of the A line of 2016, offering improved characteristics and a refreshed design. But the most important trump cards of the updated line are the device housings protected from dust and moisture according to the IP68 standard and the presence of a fingerprint scanner. The design of the new Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) has become as close as possible to the Galaxy S7, moreover, the device is very much reminiscent of the seventh iPhone, and both of these factors worked in its favor - the smartphone looks solid and expensive, but at the same time quite “fresh”.
The metal and Gorilla Glass 4 body is beautifully put together, and the back is curved at the edges, just like the Galaxy S7. Thanks to this, as well as its compact size, the smartphone fits very comfortably in the hand. The weight of the device is only 138 grams, the body dimensions are 135.4 x 66.2 x 7.9 mm - perhaps ideal for those who are looking for a compact (by today's standards) device. Under the screen of the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) there are the usual backlit side touch buttons (and without backlighting they are practically invisible), as well as a central mechanical button with a fingerprint scanner.
Above the display there is a front camera and a speaker. On the back of the smartphone there is only a camera with a flash and the Samsung logo. On the left side of the device there are volume buttons, on the right there is a power button and a speakerphone. At the bottom there are 3.5 mm headphone jacks and microUSB Type C, as well as a microphone hole. On the top there is a tray for SIM cards and Micro SD memory cards, as well as a noise-canceling microphone. The Galaxy A3 2017 has a combined tray - either two nano-SIM cards, or one nano-SIM card and a memory card (up to 256 GB).

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) display and cameras

Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (SM-A320F) received a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (pixel density - 312 ppi). The screen matrix is Super AMOLED, the display shows one of the best pictures of 4.7-inch devices offered on the market today. The colors are rich, the brightness margin is huge, and the viewing angles are maximum. There is not the slightest complaint about the smartphone’s display; HD resolution is enough for it. Plus, it performs great in the sun.
The main camera of the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) remains 13 megapixels, but the front one has grown a little - now it is 8 megapixels versus 5 for the Galaxy A3 2016 model. Both cameras have an f/1.9 aperture, they have added a little quality to the pictures, and also received a redesigned application menu, in our opinion - it has become more convenient. The photos from the main camera are more than good, the white balance is excellent, the pictures are clear and with correct color reproduction. Moreover, even in low light conditions, the photos are of quite decent quality, although there is a lot of “noise”. Video in Full HD looks more than decent.
The front camera, of course, is inferior in photo quality to the main one, but overall it looks very decent. It can also record video in Full HD quality, but there is no point in this with a “live” main camera; the quality is several levels lower. For video broadcasts, its capabilities are absolutely enough.

Features and performance of Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)

The new Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) smartphone has a fairly lively eight-core Exynos 7870 processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. This is far from the best processor that Samsung puts on its devices, but, as it turned out, it is more than enough for the Galaska A3 2017. The same goes for volume random access memory– the smartphone has 2 gigabytes. The device has 16 gigabytes of built-in flash memory. The graphics are handled by a good ARM Mali-T830 MP2 video accelerator.
The smartphone has enough of this stuff to its heart's content - the device is very fast, all applications work smoothly and without slowdowns. The same applies to the gaming part - the power of the Galaxy A3 (2017) is enough to comfortably play almost any game at good graphics settings. Asphalt 8 and Dead Effect 2 at maximum settings never “slowed down” during the game; the device can safely be called a “gaming” one.
At the moment, out of the box, the Samsung Galaxy A3 Duos (2017) has the Android 6 operating system with an updated proprietary TouchWiz shell, but an update to Android 7 is expected in the near future. Regarding the new TouchWiz, its design has been refreshed, the settings have been rearranged and a number of new functions have been added. . Let's not forget to mention synthetic tests - AnTuTu Benchmark rated the new Korean smartphone at 46,357 points.

In addition to the cute design, gorgeous display and excellent performance, the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (SM-A320F) has a number of other nice and useful features. IP68 case protection allows the smartphone to safely endure a 30-minute immersion in fresh water to a depth of one and a half meters. The 2350 mAh battery gives the device good autonomy, although the figure is not great, but in reality the A3 2017 holds its charge very well.
Another interesting feature of all models of the updated A-line of Samsung smartphones is the Always On Display function. In sleep mode, a number of useful information will be displayed on the device’s screen - current time, calendar, latest notifications, battery level. It’s very convenient and you get used to it very quickly.
We also note support for LTE Cat 6 and the Samsung Pay payment service.

What's the result?

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) turned out to be significantly more interesting than its predecessor. The smartphone received a fresher design and improved cameras, became faster, received a protected body and a fingerprint scanner. But is all this worth the price difference, which is about $80 compared to its predecessor? Our opinion is that it is worth it.
Galaxy A3 (2017) will be the ideal solution for those who are looking for a compact, modern smartphone with good performance and high quality materials. The device is superbly balanced, even with a strong desire it is difficult to find fault with anything. The only caveat is that the price is not low; the new product currently costs about $370. Available body colors are black, gold, pink and blue. We invite happy owners of the new Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) to leave reviews on our website.

4.7", Amoled screen, metal-glass, beautiful, oleophobic coating, energy saving modes, fingerprint, second secret "space"

Minuses

I've been using it for a week, but one of the downsides is the low battery power: with active use it lasts a day. I still don’t fully understand, but it seems to me that in energy saving mode the screen becomes a little dull, sometimes you have to press it two or three times. But this seems to be due to the processor frequency limitation in economy mode.

Review

Very happy with the purchase! I spent a very long time choosing models. The store's discount arrived just in time. So it cost me less. Because I'm not a fan large smartphones, and I consider 5-inch ones to be such, there were only two decent options. With that discount everything was decided. Someone wrote that the sound is quiet (as if this is a price for water resistance) - nothing like that! Quite loud speaker. I really like that there are energy saving modes. Average and maximum. They really help to extend the operating time! I also installed a dark screensaver, removed the blue color, and began to hold the charge even longer. Screen size 4.7 - perfect! You can reach anywhere with one finger. Not disappointed yet. I've been using it for a week. I recommend!

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is the most affordable model of the three presented in Russia, but it has a lot of disadvantages. Externally, not taking into account its more compact dimensions, this smartphone is no different from its counterparts. It is also available in four different designs: blue, gold, pink and black.

One way or another, what is hidden under the beautiful and stylish design? We will answer this question in our review of the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017, and also talk about its appearance.

Design and screen

Like other devices in this series, the Galaxy A3 is covered on both sides with durable Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and the frame around it is made of metal. Due to the rounded edges of the back and 2.5D glass, the phone fits perfectly in your hands. The frames are a little big - this is not confirmed best ratio screen to body, which is 67.9%.

On the right is the power/unlock button, and on the left we see the volume keys. Below the screen there are traditional capacitive keys “Application Manager” and “Back” with their own backlight, as well as a “Home” button with a built-in fingerprint sensor that works using the touch method.

It has a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, and the pixel density reaches 312 ppi. This value is far from the record, but the clarity of the picture will not disappoint you. Even small text remains readable and smooth, and the image remains visible in bright sunlight.

One of the most interesting features of the updated A3 is the Always On Display. This function allows you to display on the screen such important information, such as date and time, notifications, calendar, music player control buttons and more. Everything you need will be shown on the screen when the phone is sleeping, making AOD an extremely convenient feature of this phone.

The very thin body of the phone is made in accordance with the requirements of the IP68 standard, which makes the “handset” completely waterproof. The user can dive with a smartphone to a depth of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Naturally, the device is also protected from dust penetration.

Cameras

The new Galaxy A3 (2017) has a pair of lenses, one of which is on the front panel and the other on the back. The front camera boasts an 8-megapixel sensor, meaning it can take pictures in a resolution of 3264x2448 pixels. The video is also quite good - Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. The main camera has a 13-megapixel sensor that can take pictures noticeably best quality and permissions. Unfortunately, the phone can't record 4K video, but 1920x1080 will be enough for most people.

Near the main lens, which by the way does not protrude from the back cover, there is a single LED flash. She does her job well.

Processor and memory

The Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 is based on the Exynos 7870 processor, which has 8 energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores. They operate at a frequency of 1.6 GHz, which is enough for everyday tasks. There is a Mali-T830 graphics accelerator with two cores on board, which ensures the performance of 3D games at acceptable settings.

The hardware platform also includes 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. If the built-in memory is not enough, the user can expand it using a microSD memory card. This is only possible if the second SIM card slot is not occupied by it. Unfortunately, Samsung decided to save money and introduced a hybrid tray, so you have to choose.

It is worth emphasizing that out of 16 GB of ROM, only 9.7 GB is available to the user.

Autonomy

For autonomy mobile device The battery is 2350 mAh. This, according to the manufacturer, is enough for 12 hours of surfing on 3G Internet or 16 hours on 4G. If you use only Wi-Fi, the built-in battery will last for 17 hours of browsing.

The battery is naturally not removable, and it also does not support fast charging, which is definitely a disadvantage. Considering the relatively small capacity of the autonomous power supply, the new Galaxy A3 (2017) will not charge for a long time.

Wireless connection

This phone is equipped with a module that allows it to work in fourth generation networks (Cat.6). Both SIM card slots are compatible with the Nano type, and the second one can also be used to increase the amount of internal memory.

The device is obviously equipped with Bluetooth version 4.2, Wi-Fi with dual-band support and the latest 802.11 ac standards. The picture is decorated with the presence of USB Type-C (USB 2.0) and an NFC module, thanks to which the company implemented the Samsung Pay mobile payment service.

The A3 chip includes global positioning systems such as GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS, but this is not surprising.

Software

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) runs on the Android platform version 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which does not add interest to it. One way or another, the smartphone is pre-installed latest version user interface Samsung Experience, which fascinates with its ergonomics and set of tools.

The capabilities of flagship smartphones become available to the user, including changing themes, application icons, Samsung Cloud, the “Secure Folder” function, a new “Optimization” system maintenance tool, two new energy saving modes and much more.

Conclusion

The updated model, both externally and internally, looks quite good, but, of course, it is not without its drawbacks. Of interest is the fingerprint scanner, which just needs to be touched to unlock the screen, the waterproof case, and even autonomy due to the energy-efficient chipset. But the hybrid slot for SIM cards is not very pleasing.

You will also not be delighted with the camera and the price of the new product. Now the Galaxy A3 (2017) will cost you 23 thousand rubles. Yes, considering all the pros and cons, you will be satisfied with the phone.

For Samsung, 2017 was a year of excellence. The Koreans not only released one of the most technologically advanced Galaxy flagships S8, having set the bar for the famous IPhone, but also updated many younger and simpler models. Among those that were noticeably upgraded was the mid-range line Samsung class Galaxy A. And not only the older models of the series, but also its youngest representative - Samsung Galaxy A3.

Technical characteristics of Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)

The South Korean developer is quite cunning - while most manufacturers are still chasing the screen size of their smartphones, Samsung is chasing the quality of the equipment. The guys from this company know their customers. And they know that a small but productive gadget is valued much more among ordinary people than a large smartphone with a weak processor.

As a result, we see annual updates to the South Korean mid-range lineup.

Technically, the Samsung Galaxy A has undergone significant changes. However, the models in the series differ not so much from each other.

Frame

Like its older colleagues, the A3 has become smoother and more rounded. The corners of the body no longer protrude so clearly, and the edges smoothly flow from one to another. Many people don’t like this decision regarding the redesign, saying that the phone has become like a soap dish. However, these are modern trends - angular buildings now seem to be a trend of the last century.

The perimeter of the phone is framed by a metal frame, the front panel is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with a 2.5D effect. At the back, the same glass covers a slightly curved back panel. By the way, the panel is now smooth, there are no protrusions on it, the camera lens is perfectly tucked deeper into the body, which is quite convenient. The glass surface can sometimes play a cruel joke on its owner - glass and metal in the body materials make the phone uncomfortably slippery. If you are going to carry it without a case, be careful and hold the device tightly. Any fall in this case guarantees cracks and scratches on the phone body.

The front panel is not much different from the 2016 version - the screen occupies about 70% of the entire front part of the device, above it there is a speaker, the company logo, a front camera and a proximity sensor. At the bottom is the “Home” button on the mechanics with a built-in fingerprint scanner. There is also “Return” and “List of Applications” on the sensor. The touch buttons do not remain visible on the panel in inactive mode, although this is one of the signs of budget - more luxury models no longer have this.

Photo gallery: features of the appearance of the smartphone

Many users noted that after the redesign the phone looked like a point-and-shoot device
The camera now practically does not protrude beyond the surface of the body

At the bottom there is a mechanical button to return to the main screen and touch-sensitive “Context menu” and “Back”
The speaker is placed on the side in an original way, next to it is the lock key

On the bottom there are two connectors - for headphones and for charger
Above the display you can find a speaker, front camera lens, motion sensor and the usual logo of the developer company

On the top edge of the phone, the developers placed a SIM card slot and microphone
Traditionally, volume up and down buttons are located on the left side

The dimensions of the device remained virtually unchanged. The length and width of the phone were 135.4 x 66.2 mm, respectively, and its thickness was 7.9 mm. The weight of the model is 138 g. Compared to last year’s version, the length of the case, its thickness and weight have increased, but the width has decreased. Apparently, the developer tried to bring the phone as close as possible to FullHD parameters with 16:9 proportions.

There are only three color options: black (Black), blue (Blue), gold (Gold), pink (Pink). In general, we tried to please everyone.

The small dimensions of the phone make it extremely ergonomic and convenient. It’s pleasant to hold the phone in your hand, and an attempt to reach the opposite corner, if necessary, will be crowned with undoubted success, even for girls.

Tech stuff

Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 runs on a fairly powerful eight-core Exynos 7 Octa 7870 processor, which is manufactured using 14 nanometer technology. Four ARM Cortex-A53 cores, whose clock speed is 1.6 GHz, and the same number of Mali-T830 GPU cores were placed here. By the way, this chipset was previously found in the oldest representative of the budget J line - Samsung Galaxy J7 last year. You shouldn't expect high results from hardware designed for medium-class phones. However, for its price and niche, the phone demonstrates good performance and stable operation. For everyday work, local equipment is quite enough. More resource-intensive tasks, although they significantly load the processor, are still up to the task. But in heavy 3D games it is useless to test the power of the hardware.

Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 runs on a fairly powerful eight-core Exynos 7 Octa 7870 processor. Four ARM Cortex-A53 cores are placed here, whose clock frequency is 1.6 GHz. The smartphone also has four Mali-T830 graphics processor cores.
For its price and niche, the phone demonstrates good performance and stable operation. In single tests, the cores show low results. A joint test of cores will show a completely different picture - the result is “above average”
Despite the fact that the smartphone is significantly inferior to the company's leading flagships, its performance is absolutely sufficient to complete most everyday tasks. Difficulties in work are caused only by heavy and resource-intensive 3D games If you are buying a smartphone for work and everyday tasks, and not for games and entertainment, the device will not cause any complaints

Android version 6.0.1 Marshmallow is installed here with the Grace UX shell, which is among model range Samsung was only used in the Note7. It has a non-standard notification panel and settings menu, and also provides the phone owner with additional screen, which displays actual news. In addition, Grace UX allows you to change the appearance of standard icons and the theme (you will, however, have to buy them), can respond to the owner’s gaze (activating the display when you look at it), and offers to optimize the phone’s energy consumption yourself. In general, Grace UX has a wagonload of useful gadgets and a small cart. Despite their abundance, the shell works quickly, and noticeable slowdowns are observed only when loading news into the panel.

It is also worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 can be upgraded to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.

Photo gallery: operating system features

The phone is equipped with 2 GB of RAM

Almost half of the phone's total memory will be occupied by system files and folders, which are impossible to get rid of. Fortunately, the developers thought about their customers and placed here a slot for a flash card, the maximum capacity of which can reach 256 GB. Considering that the A3 is Samsung's junior model in the mid-price segment, the gift from the creators seems impressive. Although we should not forget that the additional memory slot will simply be inaccessible if the owner of the gadget uses two SIM cards. You will have to sacrifice either contacts or documents.

Of the available 16 GB of internal memory, about half will be available to the smartphone owner

Battery

The battery on the Galaxy A3 is lithium ion and non-removable. Its capacity is only 2350 mAh, but the screen with low resource consumption and the built-in processor, which intelligently distributes the load on the battery, more than compensate for the small capacity.

The battery in the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 is not very spacious, but the results and operating time are pleasantly surprising

The time of continuous work on the Internet reaches 12-17 hours, the phone can play video for up to 17 hours in a row, play audio for up to 41 hours when the screen is periodically turned on and up to 55 hours when it is turned off. At the same time, the talk time without interruptions is about 17 hours. In general, at an average load level, the smartphone can easily withstand almost two days of work.

There is no fast or wireless charging on the Galaxy A3 2017. However, even without them, the device is fully charged quite quickly - in 1.5 - 2 hours the battery replenishes its reserve to the maximum level.

The battery is undoubtedly strong point smartphone even with low capacity figures

Other amenities

In addition to good technical characteristics, the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 also added several special functions that will pleasantly surprise the owners of the gadget.

IP68

The IP68 standard guarantees your smartphone reliable protection from dust and moisture entering the phone body. Now you don’t have to worry that your gadget will suddenly stop working after encountering water or a sandstorm. It can be safely placed at a depth of 1.5 meters for as long as 30 minutes. If during such a time even water cannot get inside, let alone dust.

Despite the fact that the smartphone occupies the youngest place in the line, since 2017 it is also equipped with dust and moisture protection properties

Samsung Pay

One of the undoubted advantages of the updated version of A3 is the ability to pay without a physical card. The 2017 version added support for NFC and MST technologies, which allows you to link a card to your phone and then calmly pay with it, even without having this card in your pocket. The data is reliably protected and there is no need to worry about its loss - every transaction of funds is confirmed by your fingerprint.

They didn’t forget to put Samsung Pay in the smartphone

Always-On-Display

This feature, previously exclusive to luxury models, appeared on Samsung Galaxy A line smartphones only this year. Moreover, as you can see, not only among its senior representatives, but also among the youngest A3. The function itself is as follows: the screen of your phone, even in inactive mode, displays all current notifications, events, calendar, clock and other important and useful information.

Like its older brothers in the line, the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 is not without an always-on screen feature

Blue filter

This mode changes the phone's current color scheme to a softer, warmer, autumnal color scheme. This change has a very beneficial effect on the eyes of the owner of the device, relieves tension from them, and allows the eye muscles to relax. As a result, the time you spend using the phone increases, and discomfort and fatigue decrease.

USB Type C (1.0)

Among other things, the phone has a new USB connector. This is now USB Type C version 1.0. How is the new connector different from the old one? Yes, because it is symmetrical, which means that it doesn’t matter which side you try to insert it into the phone. Any will do.

Fingerprint's scanner

The fingerprint scanner is built into the mechanical Home button on the front of the phone. Users have very mixed reviews about its work. Some are satisfied with the device, noting the fast response (less than 1.5 seconds to unlock) and smooth operation. Others categorically state that the scanner is mediocre and only works every time. Considering that we are talking about a junior phone in the budget line, such flaws seem forgivable.

The fingerprint scanner in the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017, although weak, is still present

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a camera with a main camera resolution of 13 megapixels. The focal power of the lens is f/1.9. Like older models, the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 has both built-in standard modes and a Pro mode, which involves manual adjustment of most parameters. So, in this mode you can easily adjust ISO, i.e. the light sensitivity of the lens, select the white level, set exposure and much more. The camera interface is also very standard and is unlikely to cause confusion among those who have used Samsung smartphones in recent years.

In addition to the standard ones, the camera is equipped with an HDR mode. If some time ago this mode justifiably seemed useless and ineffective to many users, now HDR often “pulls out” many pictures. On the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017, this mode works very smoothly. After applying HDR, dark holes do not acquire unnatural shades, and highlights do not turn gray.

Left - picture without HDR, right - with HDR mode

Daytime shooting

During the day, the camera focuses the image very accurately and quickly. The frames are detailed, bright, rich and pleasant. The color gamut of the photographs is close to natural, the range of shades is high and varied. As for the white balance, the camera determines it quite close to the original, i.e., real, picture.

However, it is also noticeable that the smartphone is a junior version of the line. The Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 lacks optical stabilization, due to which, even during the day, pictures can sometimes come out insufficiently clear and blurry in places. In this situation, the quality of the photo directly depends on the stamina and reliability of the hand that holds it. Given the light weight of the product, as well as its size, trying to take a good, clear photo becomes a serious task. And in conditions of night shooting or indoor shooting, it becomes even more difficult.

Photo gallery: daytime shooting

The front camera of the phone has a resolution of 8 megapixels and an aperture equal to the main camera, f/1.9

The Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 carries over the same convenience in handling the front camera as its older S-series brothers. You can switch from camera to camera with a simple swipe on the display, take pictures with a quick touch of the screen, or shoot using a voice command or gesture.

With updated front camera you don’t have to worry about the quality of the pictures - they will be beautiful

Video

The Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 shoots videos in FullHD quality, with a frame rate of 30 fps. The user has access to a panorama mode, as well as a Pro mode with the same settings as the camera.

Price

The price range of the Galaxy A3 2017 is very large - from 14,700 to 22,990 rubles. The cost of the model in the official Samsung store as of July 2017 is 19,990 rubles.

Video: review of the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 smartphone

High power coupled with functionality - this is how you can characterize the Samsung A 3 2017 phone, which is extremely popular not only because of its price, but also because of the well-thought-out operation of the device as a whole. So, the smartphone is equipped with an eight-core processor of its own production with a 1600 MHz clock frequency for each core, plus 2 GB of RAM, this configuration should be enough for most not the most demanding applications, as well as games. In addition, the phone is equipped with a comfortable shell, high-quality cameras and IP68 protection, which prevents water and moisture from getting inside the smartphone. In general, we can recommend Samsung A 3 2017 not only to fans of this brand, as in its price category this device is one of the highest quality and most popular. Don't forget about the manufacturer's warranty and support.
