But it would be great to also get Live Trading in order to make the most of the multifunctional filter from TOS. And here problems already arise.
Previously, TD Ameritrade quietly allowed downloading this version of the platform after registration. But then the shop closed. Some explain this by saying that residents of the CIS countries fell out of favor with this broker, others that there were so many free registrars that they overloaded the servers.
In short, you still want to use a platform with a full-fledged stock filter, and we’ll talk further about how to get it.

Next comes the main task - fill out the questionnaire. First go to the website for generating US residents, the link to which I gave above, and generate for yourself the data of some American citizen. With their help, you completely fill out all the points in the form that are marked with a green asterisk, except for the NRIC field.
Go to the second site I gave above and create an NRIC for yourself. Must be two letters and 7 numbers. Copy this combination into the required field.
You can answer whatever you want to the last two registration questions, which ask how you heard about their site and what your educational background is. For example, “Site/Search engine” - “Google” and “A-level”.
When you have filled out everything, save your username and password in a separate file on your computer (so as not to forget) and click “Register”. You have passed the main stage. I’m not at all sure what needs to be filled out in the following pages, but it’s better to go through everything to the end. You can click whatever you want there. At the end they will tell you that you need to fund your brokerage account to continue signing up. This is where you stop.
Return to the main page and, by selecting “Thinkorswim platform” in the “Trading technology” field, download the platform for that operating system, what you need.
That's it. All you have to do is install it and start Live trading by entering your saved login and password.
What did you get? There is a delay of 20 minutes in quotes, but as I already said, this is not so important for a swing trader. The main thing is that you can now use the powerful stock filter from TOS. Of course, demo trading is also available here, but from the start you need to choose Paper Money.
And lastly: why do you need the Proxy Switcher program? Answer: in case of a ban. If your account has been closed, try registering again as follows: erase all cookies in your browser - using Proxy Switcher (you can easily find the program itself and how to use it on the Internet) create a new US IP address and check its functionality - register as we do did it again.
I heard that changing IP doesn't work because Thinkorswim doesn't remember your computer, but checks the authenticity of the data entered. Even so, before I opened an account with TD Ameritrade, I had to deal with ban issues frequently, and the last method worked quite well.

The main reason to use TOS is to learn trading through practice, but you should be armed with a strategy first. If you choose the swing trading system, then you can safely download the Paper Money version, since the delay factor does not affect the work.
The ideal option would be to get a Live Trading system to get a full-fledged securities filter. However, there are certain difficulties in carrying out this task.
Previously, the developer company allowed software to be downloaded in free mode, but with the condition of pre-registration. But over time the situation changed. It is likely that this happened due to a conflict between the broker and residents from the post-Soviet space. However, most likely, there were too many applicants, which resulted in server overload.
However, despite all this, the desire to use a full-fledged filter absolutely never disappears. Therefore, it is necessary to look for alternative options.

- Proxy Switcher program - allows you to change the IP address.
Features of registration of the Live Trading platform
Initially, you need to go to the website of the Singapore branch of the broker https://www.tdameritradeasia.com/tdaa/dist/homepage.html. Then you need to click on “Login”. 
On the next page you need to select “Register now” 
Now let's move on to the main thing - filling out the questionnaire. First, you need to generate the data of a US citizen, we have previously indicated the most suitable resource. Using the information received, you must fill out absolutely all the items in the form marked with a green marker, with the exception of the NRIC column.
Now go to the second website and generate a US ID code. As a result, it should consist of 2 letters and 7 numbers. We copy this combination into the appropriate field. You can answer the last points of the form at your own discretion.
Once all the required information has been filled out. Separately save your login and password for logging into the broker’s website. Actually, we have finished with the main stage. As for the remaining pages, it is difficult to say whether they are worth filling out at all. But still, you need to scroll to the end to make sure that you haven’t missed anything important. In the final invoice, the broker will say that after registration is completed, a certain amount of funds should be deposited into the created deposit. Actually, this is where we stop.
Switch to the main web page of the resource and select the “Trading Technology” column; in the drop-down menu you need to select “Thinkorswim Platform”. Download the software. 
Registration is completed. All that remains is to install the platform and enter the previously saved login details: login and password.

The main advantage is that you have access to a powerful securities filter. Of course, test trading is also present, but you must first select Paper Money in any case. 
However, if the work is done, then why did we download the Proxy Switcher program? It will be required if your account is blocked. Just register again, but first clear the cache and cookies from your browser. Then create a new American IP address and evaluate its performance.
Trading platform management
On the left side of the window there are mobile tabs that perform an information task. In particular, a wide range of information is displayed:
- Trade deposit balance.
- Review sheet with a list of securities.
- Quotes of the selected asset.
- News feed.
- Additional tools, calculator, etc.

- Next track icon– will allow you to expand or collapse the left side.

However, such charity may end at any time, but for now the method is working. However, do not forget that banning or blocking a trading account is not a death sentence either. As for how to register on Thinkorswim, it is free, but you will have to choose from 2 versions of the terminal:
- Paper Money is a version that allows you to work on a demo account; in it, information is delivered with a delay of 20 minutes. The official website of Thinkorswim does not allow traders from the CIS to work normally with the Live Trading version; they have to look for workarounds. Another serious drawback is that this version does not have a stock filter. Otherwise, the functionality of the platform does not differ from the Live Trading version;
- Live Trading – data is updated without delay. In addition, a stock filter becomes available. But the Thinkorswim demo account is not available in this version.
To install the terminal, proceed in the following order:
It is inconvenient to work due to the fact that after 60 days you have to re-register. To eliminate this drawback, the Thinkorswim Infinity instant registration service worked in the past - the trader did not need to do anything at all. 1-2 days before the expiration of the 60-day period, a notification will simply be sent to your email stating that the service has completed the registration on the site again.
This instant registration service on Thinkorswim is currently not working.
First start
Immediately after launch, an automatic update will occur. The program looks for an update every time it starts, and sometimes this leads to problems - there are situations when at this stage nothing simply happens and TOS (Thinkorswim) cannot be launched. Please note that the update process is slow and may take 10-15 minutes, so just wait. If it doesn’t help, you can try downloading Thinkorswim from another source and try installing it, sometimes it helps.
If everything went well, you will see the following window in which you need to select which version of the terminal you will work with (PaperMoney or LiveTrading). Enter the username and password that were used when registering on Thinkorswim. 
The CNBS window appears; you can close it immediately. 
You can make sure that we are working with the PaperMoney version by the delay in displaying the data. 
We see that we are in Simulated Trading mode, and all data arrives 20 minutes late. Thinkorswim is free, so you can live with this inconvenience. It’s much worse that in 2017 after registering on thinkorswim com version You won't be able to try Live Trading anyway.
Windows with additional information will be displayed on the left side of the terminal:
The “+” icon is responsible for adding new widgets to the panel, and the gear sign allows you to remove already added widgets. This panel can be simply hidden at any time. In principle, this is not the most important information in the Thinkorswim terminal. 
These windows can be controlled by selecting Detach Gadget from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner. In this case, the window will be undocked and can be expanded to fill the entire screen.
Watch list is a very convenient tool and the terminal itself has several standard ones. But a trader can also add his own Watch list by importing it from a text file or from another resource.
To do this, in the Thinkorswim settings (in the Watch list), select the “Create” item and then you can go in 2 ways:
The creation method is also selected - the selected shares can be added to existing ones or replace them. A trader can create several Watch lists and then simply switch between them by clicking on the vertical arrows.
Setting up a schedule
To work with ThinkorSwim charts, go to the Charts section, in the Symbol field you need to enter the name of the asset you plan to work with. By default, the charts in this terminal look like this. 
To customize the appearance:
Red vertical lines are displayed on the graph; if they interfere, you can remove them by disabling the Show Expiration Friday item in the Time Axis section. 
Here, in the Expansion Area field, set a number in the range of 5-10, this will set the indent of the chart from the right border of the screen. It’s not very convenient when the candle literally sticks to it.
In the Price Axis section you can:
- set an arbitrary top/bottom indentation, Expansion Area parameter;
- use manual scaling, it’s better not to do this, automatic scaling works well;
- set your own price change interval, to do this, activate the Custom Interval field, the number 1 means that the price change step is $1;
- choose a logarithic or percentage candle.
In the settings, the last 3 tabs correspond to currency pairs, futures and options in Thinkorswim. Don't touch them at all.
Temporary settings
If you have worked with other trading terminals, for example, then there may be a little confusion with the concepts of timeframe and time interval. These are not synonyms here.
Graphs in the Thinkorswim platform are displayed for a certain time period. For example, a 5-minute chart for a time interval of 5 days or daily candles for Last year. Both parameters can be configured.
You can change the period for which information is viewed and the interval (timeframe) in several ways:
In the future, the created timeframe will be added to the standard ones.
It doesn’t matter whether you use Thinkorswim without delays or the PaperMoney version, but you will have to analyze the chart on different timeframes. This is a general rule for all markets and does not depend on the terminal.
In order to add another window/several windows in the upper right corner, you need to set the grid parameters. 
In the example in the screenshot above, the option with 4 windows is selected. For each of them, you can set different parameters for the period and interval for viewing the same asset. 
As a result, the picture will look like this. Each of the graphs can be expanded to full screen for a more detailed analysis.
Working with indicators, scripts, strategies
There are a lot here, including those that are not included in the standard set. If you are familiar with programming for Thinkorswim, then you can write your own scripts.
To add an indicator to the chart you need:
You can go to the properties of the indicator either by double-clicking on it on the chart, or through the Edit Studies item. 
In the example in the screenshot above, the Thinkorswim indicator has been added. The list of settings is much wider than in MT4, for example, such items as the method of displaying borders, etc. have been added.
It is possible to add custom indicators; you just need to know the code in TOS format. A huge number of custom paid and free indicators can be found on ThinkScripter. Just copy the code and paste it into the appropriate field in the terminal.
To add your Thinkorswim formulas:
It is possible to use Thinkorswim strategies, change their code to get your own algorithm, or add your own. In the EditStudies section, go to the tab with strategies, for each of them you can get an explanation of how exactly it works by clicking on the question mark next to it. For example, we have chosen the signal that is issued when the price crosses its own. 
Due to Thinkorswim's latency, it is inconvenient to work in real time on small timeframes, but it is very easy to study the efficiency using history. It helps that the result for each signal is displayed. So all that remains is to sum up the result in points to understand whether the vehicle is profitable. 
A programmer's help will be required if you need to make your own changes to the strategy algorithm or write it from scratch.
Stock filter
This is the key advantage of the terminal compared to analogues. A trader has the opportunity, based on several criteria, to select from an array of assets those that meet his needs. Due to the delay, the filter only makes sense to use on the Trading Live version. But since it’s not possible to download Thinkorswim for free in Russian, as an example we will give the filter settings in the Paper Money version for the stock market:
In fact, the only limit is your imagination. The only bad thing is that the Live Trading version is often banned, and the functionality on Paper Money is limited.
How to trade
In principle, all the steps described are in the Thinkorswim manual, but you won’t be able to download it in Russian. It is only available on English language, trading here is not difficult, but just in case, we will describe the procedure for concluding transactions step by step.
In general, a small number of traders trade through this platform in the CIS. Judging by the reviews of Thinkorswim, they value it specifically for its stock filter.

It is difficult to consider all the functions of this platform in one review, but our instructions for Thinkorswim will allow a trader to learn at least the basics of working with the terminal. Unfortunately, Russian Thinkorswim is still only a dream, so you have to work with an English-language terminal.
You can download the Thinkorswim platform absolutely free, while its functionality remains complete. So if you work in the stock market, then it’s worth taking a closer look at the terminal, at least thanks to the stock filter. Today, this is one of the best, if not the best, solution for trading in all markets.
