Sophisticated design and convenient operation

As mentioned above, the device has become more compact, its thickness does not exceed 15 mm, and has acquired some elegance. The body of the device is made of black plastic with a soft touch coating. It is decorated with a decorative strip of dark cherry color, running along the right and left, as well as the upper ends and ending at the lower edge of the front panel. On the front side there is a 2.8-inch display with a resolution of 320x240, along the edge of which there is a decorative metal insert made to match the color of the case.

Above the display there is a speaker and two LED indicators. The control unit consists of eight functional buttons, a five-way joystick and is located on the front side under the display. In the top row there are keys for calling the Start menu, two soft buttons and the OK key. In the bottom row along the edges there are buttons for accepting and hanging up calls, closer to the joystick there is a key for activating the program for working with GPS and calling up the quick menu. All the keys are moderately large and have a noticeable travel; they are comfortable to work with. The joystick rises noticeably above the surface of the body and the navigation unit. Its tip is made of plastic, reminiscent of a chrome surface. This element is easy to use; joystick clicks are clearly demarcated, so erroneous clicks are rare. It resembles the joystick of its more sophisticated brother, the Glofiish X800.

Block illumination white, it illuminates all keys evenly. It does not cause any inconvenience even when working for a long time in the dark, and your eyes do not get tired. The disadvantage of the backlight is very similar to the disadvantage of models from gigabyte - the active time of the key backlight is only 5 seconds and does not change. On the left side there is a double volume key and a voice recorder activation button (can be reassigned), just below there is a device reboot button recessed into the body. The volume rocker has small ridges to make the buttons easier to find. At the bottom there is a 2.5 mm jack for connecting a headset. The power and camera activation keys are located on the right side. The power button is flush with the surface of the case, the camera power button is slightly raised.

At the bottom end there is a miniUSB connector for connecting a cable or charger. There is also a slot for a microSD memory card. A microphone is visible near the memory card slot. In the corner of the end there is a connector for a stylus. To remove it, you need to pry it with a fingernail or something sharp. You won't be able to simply swipe your finger to get it out: the stylus tip has several protruding teeth, but they are small. On the back side, at the top of the body, there is a small block consisting of a 2 MP camera, a flash window and a mirror. Next to them is a calling speaker. The camera window is not protected in any way, but is slightly recessed into the body, so that scratches do not remain on it when the device is positioned with the lid down.

Software and useful features of the device

Works new smartphone governed by operating system Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The navigation system is based on a highly sensitive SiRF Star III chipset. The cold start time of the receiver is about 1 minute, if you first use the satellite data update program. When using the device daily for navigation, searching for satellites takes an average of 10 to 30 seconds. The device is equipped with the NAVITEL Navigator 3.0 navigation program, a detailed review of which can be viewed on our website. In addition to the main program, the smartphone has several utilities that make navigation easier. The first of them is GPS Viewer – viewing coordinates, displaying the location of satellites. You can also see the compass and the exact time here.

The Location SMS application is designed to send coordinates via text message (SMS) with selected or manually entered text. The program can be used, for example, if you have agreed on a meeting, but the person cannot find a place. If he has a GPS, you can simply send him the current coordinates of your location. Satellite Data Update (SiRF InstantFix) – a program for updating satellite position data. This utility is built into many modern models of smartphones and PDAs with GPS based on the SiRF Star III chip. With its help, the device downloads satellite data via the Internet, thereby reducing the cold start time.

In addition to the standard media player, the device has a radio. The range of acceptable frequencies for programs is impressive. There are three range tabs in total: Europe (87.5 – 108.0), Japan (76.0 – 90.0) and USA (87.5 – 107.9). In each tab you can save up to 50 radio stations with the ability to edit. The radio has a screen mute function, but the broadcast from the radio station will continue.

As a phone, the X600 works well, the quality of voice reception and transmission is high. The device also has programs that make working with SMS and MMS messages simpler and more convenient, and the Call Filter program allows you to create black and white lists. After setting up the lists, you can choose the mode yourself - whether to accept calls only from the white list, not to accept only from the black list, you can turn everything off or not accept all calls at all. The program runs smoothly and will be useful to many users. The smartphone's built-in 2 MP camera with fixed focus has a rich set of settings and allows you to shoot videos in addition to photos. The interface is simple and easy to manage. Video shooting is done in 3gp format with a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels. Photo and video quality is average. You can view the received photos and videos immediately on the display of the device, which displays 65,000 colors and has a standard resolution of 320x240 pixels for such devices.

To work with wireless networks, a proprietary utility from E-Ten is used - Wireless Manager. On the left side of the application, wireless modules are launched or disabled, and on the right, they are configured. The device has a Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR module with A2DP support, which allows you to receive and transmit files at high speed and connect a wireless stereo headset. Wi-Fi version 802.11b/g is also supported. The device is built on the Samsung SC32442 platform, the central processor has a frequency of 400 MHz. For E-Ten, this processor has already become a kind of standard. The amount of RAM available for operating the operating system is 47 MB. Of this volume, about 23-25 MB is occupied by service processes for operating the OS; approximately 23-24 MB remains for running programs. Of the 128 MB of installed flash memory, approximately 50-51 are available to the user. Moreover, after the first launch, approximately 20 MB are taken away by the first installation programs, leaving approximately 30-31 GB for use.

Glofiish X600 is a universal all-in-one device. It is functionally rich and has a rich set of additional programs that will be useful to many users. But first of all, car enthusiasts will appreciate its advantages.

Formally, the E-TEN glofiish X600 is the successor to the glofiish X500 communicator, but given its positioning, there is no need to look for an unambiguous connection. As for its appearance, in our opinion, it has absorbed all the best developments of the glofiish line (for example, the buttons and joystick are one to one, like the glofiish X800).

However, the main idea - a strict rectangular body with a minimum of bends - is still taken from its progenitor, after all, a classic monoblock. True, it has been “worked up” a little: now the body is 90% made of soft-touch plastic and an original color insert has appeared, slightly “diluting” the harsh black color. But most importantly, the communicator has become even more compact. Dimensions 107x58x15 mm and weight 136 g - this is a kind of record for communicators! E-TEN glofiish X600 is one of the most compact and lightweight all-in-one devices on the market.

E-Ten Glofiish X600 is a budget communicator with a high-end appearance and excellent functionality

As for the practical aspects of use, the communicator easily fits in any pocket, fits perfectly in the hand, is pleasant to the touch and is able to retain its elegant appearance for a long time - soft-touch plastic reliably hides scratches.

Soft touch plastic reliably hides scratches

We also really liked both the presence and the color of the insert - burgundy gives the device a certain amount of freshness and originality (definitely better than the classic silver inserts or chrome, as in the glofiish X500+). It’s impossible to think of a better appearance – compact, discreet, strict and attractive. By the way, the leather case that comes with the device is also made in the same black and burgundy combination.

Everything is to the point and to the point

A more detailed examination of the E-TEN glofiish X600 showed that the company did not intend to use any extravagant ideas in the communicator, but simply put together all its previous developments (with the exception of a few points). Note that for a budget device, which is this communicator, this is more of a plus than a minus.

The E-TEN glofiish X600 has a screen diagonal of 2.8 inches, a working resolution of 240x320 pixels

So, the matrix. Diagonal 2.8 inches, working resolution 240x320 pixels, 11 backlight levels. Classic numbers – familiar sensations. Metal edging. Nothing to add. Above the display there are two indicator LEDs, respectively responsible for working with wireless interfaces(flashes blue for Bluetooth, orange for Wi-Fi and white for GPS) and system messages (charging, missed calls and SMS, etc.). Between them is a speaker, which, along with the joystick, “imitates” chrome.

The keys have a good size and a clear stroke, the proximity of one next to the other does not interfere at all

And the joystick is truly magnificent, rising seriously above the front panel, it allows you to coordinate the work of the communicator with extreme precision and comfort. The top of the joystick is made of soft rubberized plastic - the joystick feels very pleasant to the touch. The same epithets are deserved by the shortcut keys, an ideal option both in terms of quality (good size and clear movement, the proximity of one next to the other does not interfere at all) and quantity (two telephone, two soft keys, start and OK, GPS- navigation and quick menu). But still, we note that compared to the glofiish X500 control unit, there are more keys and they have moved down a little (because of this, the device is “intercepted” differently by hand). The backlighting of the keys is milky white and looks decent. True, the joystick is not illuminated, but you usually get to it intuitively.

The back panel is the traditional place for the second speaker and camera. In this case, a 2-megapixel copy is used without a flash (but there is room for it!). On the right side of the communicator there are buttons to turn on the device and activate the camera, on the left there are volume rockers, a voice recorder button, a 2.5 mm headphone jack and a hole for a soft reboot. At the top there is only an eyelet for attaching a lanyard, at the bottom there is a mini-USB connector, a slot for microSD memory cards (unfortunately, without a cover) and a microphone hole.

Please do not confuse the latter with the hole for Soft Reset (you will find it on the left side) and do not pick it with a stylus - it can be damaged. It was in vain that the manufacturer did not mark it with the appropriate icon, as, for example, in the glofiish X800. It remains only to mention the stylus, which, as usual, is accessed from below - the usual telescopic option, already familiar to E-TEN users. By the way, the stylus also serves as an additional mount for the battery compartment cover. Thanks to the tight fit in the socket, the battery compartment cover is securely fixed to the body.

Yes, yes, despite the budget nature emphasized by the manufacturer, the filling of the E-TEN glofiish X600 communicator does not look childish at all. The Samsung S3C2442 processor with a frequency of 400 MHz easily outperforms its “200 MHz popular brothers,” and 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash memory are quite enough for comfortable operation of the Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system (there are practically no inexpensive devices based on it).

X600 uses Samsung S3C2442 processor at 400 MHz

So, after loading several videos into the device, we made sure that the video in its native resolution runs without problems. As for unconverted VGA, the viewing quality depends on the video parameters. At least AVI movies with a bitrate of 800-900 Kbps went without any stutters or frame drops. In typical communication tasks, the device performed well. So in terms of performance, not a prodigy, but a solid average.

On the right are the power and camera activation buttons, on the left are the volume controls, a voice recorder button, a headphone jack and a hole for a soft reset.

The communication module of the device supports operation in 4 GSM bands plus EDGE, which, we think, will satisfy any user. It’s nice to see modern Bluetooth 2.0+EDR modules (there is the much-loved A2DP profile) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g in the gadget; an FM tuner is also useful. The GPS navigation module is made on the SiRF Star III chipset and is based on the quality of work and positioning. Quite comparable to glofiish X500. But in terms of ease of navigation, the communicator is one of the best, which is undoubtedly due to the software, about which a few words should also be said.

The communicator has many useful and convenient utilities

The device was pre-installed with the Navitel Navigator 3.0 software package (the device comes with a free overview map of Russian roads and one detailed map of any region of the user’s choice), plus a set of GPS Viewer, Location SMS and Satellite Data Update utilities, and this is an excellent basis for use gadget as a communicator. Traditionally, E-TEN has many of its own utilities (we counted 18), we will mention only the most useful ones. In addition to the above, this is Quick Bar, which calls up the quick launch menu for nine programs, Task Manager with a clear purpose, a utility for Reserve copy Backup Utility, Connection Wizard, which allows you to automatically configure a GPRS/EDGE connection...

There is also a SpB Mobile Shell package with functions such as quickly calling contacts using a photo and current weather anywhere in the world

Perhaps some will like the Today screen replacer in the form of M-Desk, others will appreciate telephone utilities like Speed Dial or Call Filter, and multimedia fans will not be forgotten - Add Ringtone, Multimedia Manager, MMS Message. The device also comes pre-installed with a slightly stripped-down version of the popular SpB Mobile Shell package with functions such as quickly calling contacts using a photo and current weather anywhere in the world. In short, there are enough utilities for every taste and color, which is good news.

Everything you need in one package

In our opinion, the E-TEN glofiish X600 communicator was a success. A nice price and the “right” time (just before the New Year holidays) are two factors that can ensure the device tops the sales lists. However, even without this, the communicator has a whole “bouquet” of undeniable advantages.

The E-TEN glofiish X600 uses a 2 megapixel camera without a flash (but there is space for it)

Compactness is great, functionality is through the roof, excellent ergonomics and nice design, and even the latest operating system and a solid set of software to boot. As for the minuses, in principle, we cannot name a single element of the device that turned out to be an outright failure. Yes, there are certain moments (weak camera, mediocre sound, the stylus is not removed the first time) that can be classified as such. But if we remember that we are talking about the budget debut of the E-TEN company, then the glofiish X600 is definitely worthy of attention.

Main advantages:
* Built-in GPS receiver;
* Large set of keys;
* Large set of pre-installed software;
* Built-in Wi-Fi module;
* Availability of FM receiver;
* Not a bad time battery life;
* Compactness.

Main disadvantages:
* Weak camera;
* Stylus removal is difficult.

Full line of PDAs and E-TEN communicators

Based on materials from: www.zoom.cnews.ru

Despite the fact that we got 2 devices for the test, there is no particular point in writing a comparison. The fact is that the bodies of the devices are identical, so this part of the review will be in a classic form. Next, we will analyze the interior of the device, where we will dwell in more detail on the differences between the subjects.

The devices can be regarded as a change in the X500 and X500+ line, the main difference of which was also in the display, QVGA and VGA, respectively. As mentioned above, the communicator body is small, 107 x 58 x 14.7 mm and weighs 136 g. with battery. As you can see from the characteristics and photographs, the device is also thin, which is not always typical for devices of this kind. The form factor of the devices is a monoblock without an external antenna. It is convenient both when talking without using hands-free, and when using menu functions. Transporting the device is not a problem, although the device is uncomfortable in a clothing pocket, so the delivery package includes a good belt case-holster with holes for the speaker and a clip for attaching to the belt.

The material of the new products is plastic. Basically, it is black soft-touch material, from which the entire back panel and the front edging (including the buttons) are made. In addition, the screen frame is made of black plastic with a wood texture (vertical notches). The sides of the communicators are similar in texture, but different in color - the X600 has matte burgundy, while the X650 has silver plastic, which goes into a line under the control keys. Despite the slight difference in color, both devices look expensive and strict.

The layout of the body elements is traditional for devices of this class. The main part of the front panel is the display, which is one of the main control elements. Both devices have a TFT matrix with a 2.8-inch touch-screen, capable of displaying 65,536 shades of color. As mentioned above, the X650 has VGA (640x480 pixels), and the X600 has QVGA (320x240 pixels). The picture quality of both devices is expectedly good, the brightness margin is quite good, and there are no complaints about viewing angles. We will not argue that in the end QVGA or VGA is preferable, we will only note that in the second case the screen is more demanding on power and processor, and also in the case of the X650 flickers noticeably during operation.

Above the display there is a horizontal slot for the earpiece with a silver edging, on both sides of which there are operation indicators (traditionally - Bluetooth, missed event, charging, etc.). Below the display we see the “glofiish” logo and just below a block of control keys.

The X600 and X650 models do not have an alphanumeric block, so all text input manipulations are supposed to be done using the display and stylus.

The dominant control keys are the joystick, the pin of which is located in the middle of the block. Despite its small size, it is easy to use and pressure sensitive. Around the joystick we see contextual keys, start, OK, home, GPS keys, as well as buttons for accepting and rejecting calls. Traditional extensive block filling for the E-ten company. The keys have a moderate clicking action, despite the fact that they protrude minimally from the surface of the case. The backlighting of the keys is white, made with white LEDs, slightly uneven, but quite bright.

On the left side of the case we see a combined volume rocker, and below it a notes key. A little lower there is a hole for reset, and closer to the bottom edge there is a mini-jack connector (2.5mm).

The upper edge of the case is decorated with the GPS inscription and a hole for attaching a strap. At the bottom we see a microphone hole, a slot for removable memory cards microSD and a miniUSD interface connector, through which both charging and synchronization of the device is carried out. The memory card compartment is a classic slide, but, alas, not covered with a plug: there is a chance of accidentally snapping the card off, despite the fact that it is slightly recessed into the body.

Let's turn the device over and look back panel. The upper part, about a quarter of the entire panel size, is given over to the camera console and vertical slots, some of which hide the external speaker. The camera is 2 megapixel (for both devices), the lens is not covered with a protective curtain, which is why you need to be careful and careful not to scratch the glass. The self-portrait mirror is made in line with the flash and is located to the right of the lens, adjacent to the latter. We'll talk more about the camera and pictures in the corresponding section of the menu.

Next, it would be logical to start looking at the back cover (battery compartment cover), but when removing it (it is first moved), we encounter an obstacle in the form of a stylus. The stylus case is located in the lower part and is almost invisible, due to the fact that the black shank merges with the surface of the device. By prying a small notch on the feather with your fingernail, we pull it out. The stylus is telescopic, but, unfortunately, when removed it does not always open completely; this manipulation often has to be done manually. The size of the pen is average, both length and thickness, and the structure is traditional - metal case and plastic tip and shank.

So, the battery compartment cover. In addition to the side edges, it noticeably extends onto the bottom, actually forming it. In addition, for its fastening, 3 protrusions are used on the sides and bottom, as well as 2 in the upper part (total 11), which is why, given a combination of factors, it does not play, and removal (if you remember to take out the stylus) does not cause difficulties. If we talk about the overall design of the case, then it is solid, there are no unnecessary gaps, backlashes or creaks.

The battery rests under the cover in the recess provided for it. The battery is secured with a latch at the bottom; by pressing it, the battery moves upward slightly, making it not at all difficult to get out (although there is a protrusion at the bottom of the compartment). Under the battery we see a compartment for attaching a SIM card. This is a card-shaped recess and 2 metal brackets on the sides. Installing and removing the card is easy.

User interface

The communicator's desktop is typical for Windows Mobile devices, with the exception of the clearer display of information on the VGA display of the X650 and less clear display on the X600. For comparison, we will post 2 screenshots in full size– project them onto the same display size and you can evaluate the difference in perception. The top line of the desktop is used to display service symbols, such as the level of reception and battery charge, clock, as well as the availability of wireless protocols, WiFi, Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G. The bottom line is the labels for the context keys.

The main desktop field can be varied at your discretion. By default, it is represented by the current date, operator network information, owner data, message information, and a list of tasks and appointments. At will, the user can change the order in which the fields are displayed or remove them from the screen altogether. The desktop wallpaper can be a downloaded or captured image. The manufacturer took care of pre-installing the powerful Spb Mobile Shell tool from Spb Software House into the firmware. The software product includes a launcher of recently launched applications, automatically or manually updated weather forecast, an advanced clock with an alarm and support for several cities, as well as quick dialing of frequently used names from a notebook.

Despite this, in the utilities section of the main menu you can find the proprietary M-Desk launcher. Unlike Mobile Shell, it does not include additional applications, but in addition to access to almost all applications, it allows you to sort them into separate tabs, thereby simplifying access to menu items.

There is no way to bypass Task Manager - an application that hides in the lower right corner of the screen, contains data about currently running applications and allows you to close them either individually or en masse. Options for displaying what is running – list and table.

Regarding the dialer, it is similar to those in classic phones: the top field contains data about the last call, and when dialing a number, numbers are displayed on it. Just below there are 3 columns with numbers, and 1 column of service commands, such as “back”, “speed dial”, “calls” and the actual call start key.

Dialing a number with your finger at the current screen size is not convenient, but it is not impossible either; rather, there are restrictions on using it on the street, for example, with gloves. There are 2 color schemes for the dialer, so if desired, the design, or rather the color, can be changed.

The device menu can be divided into 2 types: quick access menu and main menu. In the first case, the menu is activated by “tapping” on the “Start” key and is a customizable vertical list of 7 items, data about the 5 most recently launched applications (or 7 icons in horizontal orientation), as well as access to the main menu and settings. The main menu, or as it is called in all Windows Mobile devices, “programs,” is an analogue of the desktop Windows OS: application icons and inscriptions under them. One screen can accommodate no more than 12 icons, and this is true for both vertical and horizontal orientation. Eten Glofiish X600 and X650:: Review::

Phone book, call service

By default, the call log, which, as mentioned above, is accessible from the dialer, displays data about all calls, but if you wish, you can filter missed, outgoing and incoming numbers, and, in addition, sorting by caller names is available. In addition to the name and number, the list itself displays the time, date and duration of the conversation (if it took place). The user can also view data on the duration of all calls with the ability to delete “old” calls (from 1 week to 1 year).

Some nice additions include Call Filter (customizable “black list”) and Speed Dial – a dialer for quickly dialing 10 frequently used subscribers with a simple interface.

Eten Glofiish X600 and X650:: Review:: Messages

The application interface is similar to that of Outlook, familiar to PC users, and has a tree structure. The devices support all main types of messages, namely sms, mms and email. When it comes to writing messages, there are no difficulties. First, enter the recipient and proceed to editing the message. Templates are provided for quick entry, and tracking options can be set for each specific message.

As for the client's e-mail, it is almost simpler than the SMS service. Once you've set up your account and access the Internet, you can type and receive messages almost as easily as on a desktop PC. There were no problems with displaying Russian encodings during testing, but the problem of an account disappearing out of the blue was present, although the device does not allow you to create an entry with the same name.

There is no T9 dictionary as such, but the built-in keyboard, when typing words, always suggests their continuation, which is quite convenient and allows you to speed up the writing process.

Organizer, office

This item can rightfully be called the most complete in the communicator. So, in stock:

  • Excel Mobile
  • Word Mobile
  • PowerPoint Mobile
  • Tasks
  • Notes
  • Calendar
  • Calculator
  • The first 3 applications are almost completely identical to their big brothers from the desktop PC. By the way, part of this review was written on the device under test. There were no problems with editing and saving documents from classic versions of these Microsoft Office products.

Tasks – a list of to-dos, which you can optionally display on the main screen as an eloquent reminder of yourself, and also, if necessary, group them at your discretion.

Notes allow the user to leave both a handwritten note and one typed on the virtual keyboard.

The calendar will outperform even its desktop counterpart in terms of display variations. There is a day, week, month, year and even a complete calendar for the current year by month. To create a reminder, you must enter the subject, location, start and end, and select the period and time of the reminder. The user is also asked to configure the repeatability of the event, selecting a category and writing a note. When synchronizing with a PC, provided that Outlook is installed, you can synchronize calendar entries with your PDA.

The calculator is a simple adding machine with an advanced set of functions such as percentage, square root, +/- and 1/x, as well as memory functions.

Explorer can also be classified as an office application. It is similar to that of a desktop PC and allows the user not only to view the cataloged content of the device, but also to edit and delete files and folders.

There are as many as 3 alarm clocks in the device. Each of them can be configured to go off once or on certain days. The alert sound is set from the sound settings menu.

Eten Glofiish X600 and X650:: Review:: Internet

The communicators have a pocket version of the Internet Explorer browser installed. The application interface is quite simple: the address bar is on top, the work field is just below, the left context key hides favorites, and the settings are hidden under the right context key.

The browser supports a log of visits, scaling, and fitting the page to the screen.

The device supports EDGE and GPRS, which makes the speed of opening pages quite high.

Eten Glofiish X600 and X650:: Review:: Communications

The communication capabilities of both devices include Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, USB data cable and WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b/g).

  • Bluetooth profiles support all modern services, and the module itself works quite correctly:
  • File Transfer
  • Serial Port
  • Hands free
  • Headset
  • Generic Object Exchange
  • Generic Access
  • Personal Area Networking
  • Object Push
  • Audio/Video Remote Control

For ease of use and activation of supported wireless networks, a so-called “Wireless Manager” with a fun interface is provided. This application, among other things, supports disabling the radio unit, which will be convenient if you need to use the device on an airplane, and disabling/enabling all wireless modules at the same time.

The devices have a built-in GPS module based on the traditional SirfStar III chip. Navigation software includes a licensed version of the Navitel program. There are no complaints about the module’s operation, classic “hot” and “cold” start readings, plus a friendly application interface. Additional software for working with the receiver - GPS Viewer, Location SMS and Satelite Data Update.

We will leave discussions about the convenience of the software to the judgment of the end user, but what can be said with confidence is that the device is ready to work almost from the first minutes, i.e. there is no need to waste time purchasing and installing cards.

One screen can accommodate no more than 12 icons, and this is true for both vertical and horizontal orientation. games and applications

Taking into account the capabilities of the communicator's operating system, we can assume that the 2 games installed by default are just a drop in the ocean from the gaming content available on the Internet. However, Solitaire Solitaire and Bubble Breaker puzzle are available.

The user is free to install any games, both in the device’s memory and on a memory card, but the devices are not friendly with Java - support for applets is not provided, so you will either have to put up with it or use third-party programs.

Both devices have FM radio. The application interface is simple and clear - the top line with icons for turning off the display, favorites and selecting a radio station frequency, and below is a window with the currently playing radio station and an equalizer. For some reason, the main field is occupied by a vertical list of saved radio stations. Surprisingly, there is no sound output to the communicator's speaker.

Playing all multimedia content in the device is possible through Windows Media Player versions 10 (version 10.3, Build 18125).

The user is asked to select the type of information (audio, video), media (device or memory card) and start playing. Before searching, it makes sense to update the library, a feature that searches for all supported content on the device. By default, the player has only one skin, but it can be supplemented with new ones downloaded from the Internet. Supports functions such as random playback, song repeat, playlists.

Playing music is possible either through stereo speakers or through a headset (wired or Bluetooth). A wired headset connects to a traditional 2.5” jack, so to listen to songs through your favorite headphones you will need an adapter. In cyclic playback mode of one song when fully charged (with the display turned off), the device will work for just under 10 hours. Not bad, but not the most stellar indicator, it’s worth saying.

Eten Glofiish X600 and X650:: Review:: Camera

When the application is launched, a slider appears on the screen, eloquently indicating the loading speed of the application. The interface is simple and functional: almost the entire screen field is devoted to the viewfinder, except for information icons indicating the size of the resulting frame, as well as access to advanced settings. The differences between the X650 and X600 are in the camera's support for first autofocus, otherwise the settings are identical:

  • Resolution (1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480, 320x240, 176x144) and (640x480, 320x240, 176x144 for the camera on the front panel).
  • White balance (auto, tungsten, lighting, sunlight, shadow, cloudy, night)
  • File Format (BMP, JPG, JPG + EXIF)
  • Mode (normal, timer, portrait)
  • Saving path (not only main memory or card, but also directory selection)
  • Assistant
  • Frequency (50 Hz, 60 Hz, auto)
  • Framework
  • Screen rotation is supported, although judging by the location of the shutter button, it is worth saying that the device allows for comfortable only horizontal shooting.

For video, the settings are somewhat more meager:

  • Resolution (320x240, 176x144, 128x96)
  • White balance (auto, tungsten, lighting, sunlight, shadow, cloudy, night)
  • Sound (on or off)
  • Saving path (not only main memory or card, but also directory selection)
  • Assistant
  • Special effects (normal, negative, grayscale, flashback and reflection)
  • Frequency (50 Hz, 60 Hz, auto)
  • Quality (high, medium, low)
  • In terms of the quality of the resulting images, the cameras deserve a “good” rating. The problem with slow saving, noticed in the M800 and X800, was inherited by current models, and this is true for both internal memory, and for a removable memory card. Examples of pictures will tell you about cameras better than any words, but subjectively, strong point The X650 is good at macro photography, while shooting at infinity is lame, and in the X600 everything is exactly the opposite - unreadable macro photography and relatively good landscapes.

    Photos from the X600 camera

    Photos from the X650 camera

To view the footage without launching the application itself, there is a “photo and video” program that can show photos in the form of a table or slides.

An additional function of the camera with the included Namecard Manager in the X650 model is business card recognition. The function is not new and interesting, designed to save the owner from manually entering data from a business card, but during testing it was not possible to fully recognize information from the cards, despite the fact that the device was offered business cards with different font sizes - it is not possible to read all the information.

The difference in software is noticeable only in additional applications, namely FM Transmitter and Namecard Manager in the X650.

In terms of performance, we present the SPB Benchmark and Core Player tests, the results of which speak louder than words.

Impressions and conclusions

In terms of the volume of the ringing and conversational speakers, the devices are at the same and I must say good level, the volume reserve is enough to use the devices on a busy street, but the vibration alert is average in strength. There were no complaints from the interlocutors about the microphone, although it falls slightly short of ideal. In the conditions of the Moscow BeeLine network, the devices worked on average a little more than a day, with the X650 due to its VGA display and more powerful processor loses to its QVGA brother. In GPS mode, the devices will ask for charging after about 5 hours, and listening to music will discharge them, as mentioned above, in a little less than 10. The full charging cycle is a little more than 2 hours, considering that charging is possible both from a 220 V network and from Computer USB port. The reception level of the communicators is not satisfactory - it is traditionally good for the entire line of devices from the manufacturer. The problem of connection delay is present, but this is rather a flaw in the operating system and is present in all Windows-mobile devices.

As a result, as stated above, the X600 and X650 are successors to the E-ten series of devices, namely the X500 and X500+. These are compact all-in-one communicators with expectedly good performance today. Some of the shortcomings discussed in the review are more related to so-called software problems and, most likely, will be eliminated in new versions of the software (firmware). As for the price, it is comparable to the performance characteristics and novelty of the devices. Otherwise, the devices leave behind an extremely positive impression, providing the end user with freedom of choice in part of the screen, coming out at the same time, unlike the X500 line.

    Introduction

The E-TEN company has once again released an interesting new product to the Russian market. Apparently, this is one of the last models this year (although who knows, because this company has already pleased us with surprises more than once). So what are they trying to surprise us with once again? The Glofiish model, which we will consider today, caused a storm of various emotions long before its appearance. This model is popularly called the “killer”. Where exactly the name came from is not entirely clear. Most likely, either from the manufacturer itself, or, alternatively, from people close to the company. But the point is that the name killer is not clear until you pick up the device. Look, you look at similar communicators and you understand why it’s still a killer. The model is small and elegant, but with rich capabilities and an expectedly low cost (the retail price is planned to be around 15,000 rubles). But what else makes it stand out for Russian market, we will understand in this review.

    13) Protective film on the screen

    * in the future, depending on the delivery, the Autosputnik program will also be included in the package

I note that the case included in the kit is made of leather and has a double belt clip. In order for the call to be heard when the communicator is in the case, two slits were made on the inner wall, no matter which side you put the communicator in the case.

The protective film included in the kit is quite suitable for use for the first time. But the new headset included in the kit was a very pleasant surprise. Its quality and volume have become a level higher compared to the company's previous models.

Design and ergonomics of E-TEN Glofiish x600

The design of this device is the main feature of it. The communicator has become much smaller than its predecessors. Just compare: Glofiish X600 has dimensions of 107 x 58 x 14.7 mm and weight 136 grams, and its “parents” Glofiish X500/X500+ had dimensions of 113 x 59.5 x 15.5 mm, weight 146 grams. Of course, numbers are numbers, but in order to understand the difference, you need to at least take two different devices and visually compare them. By the way, someone may have the idea to compare Killer, for example, with HTC Touch. Here, of course, the difference is minimal, but it is there (the HTC Touch has 100x58x14 mm and weighs 112 g). Although, let us remind you that the HTC Touch has a 200 MHz processor (and not 400 MHz like the X600) and does not have a built-in GPS module.

In general, Glofiish X600 in terms of design has collected all the best (in my opinion) from the entire Glofiish line.

From Glofiish X500 he took part of the technical filling, from Glofiish X500+ - dark color and severity, but from latest model X800 he got the start and okay keys, and, of course, a joystick. As well as satellite navigation buttons and a key (with a house) to launch the Quick Bar, which are lowered from top to bottom.

The device itself is made of plastic with a Soft touch coating. True, not completely, but 80% is covered with it. In other places it's just plastic. But overall, the device lies firmly in the hand and makes no attempt to slip out.

In the upper front part of the device there are LEDs familiar to everyone. Let me remind you that, as in previous models, the left LED blinks in different colors depending on which wireless function is turned on. If you turn on Wi-Fi, it starts to glow orange, and if, for example, you activate Bluetooth, then it lights up blue. But when you turn on the navigation (GPS), it quickly winks in the same blue light 3 times. The right LED is still responsible for the presence of the network (GSM). Simply put, does your operator have a network in a given location? Once the LED blinks, it means there is a network. By the way, if the red light is constantly on or flashing, it means that you missed either a call or an SMS. It is very useful to understand without turning on the device whether the call was missed?

At the bottom there is a control unit, the same as that of the Glofiish X800. Virtually no change. The same two soft keys, call and reset buttons, start and okay (the glofiish X500 did not have them, which caused quite a few critical comments from users), and navigation + “house”. Total 8 buttons + joystick. By the way, it is still just as easy to use and comes with an “anti-dust” box. The backlighting of the keys is white, which does not disturb the eyes, and visibility at night is excellent. Pressing the buttons will not create a problem even for thick fingers.

There are only 2 buttons on the left side of the device. Turn on the device and the photo - video camera button. And if the switch is on a level with the device, then the camera protrudes slightly. Why exactly this was done is not clear, but in general it is convenient.

Well, on the right side there are traditionally volume buttons (the swing button) and a voice recorder. Just below is a button (although it would be more accurate to call it a hole) for performing a Soft Reset (soft reboot). Well, at the very bottom, there is a slightly recessed headphone jack (headset jack with a diameter of 2.5 mm).

At the very bottom of the communicator you can see a hole for the microphone (some, for some reason, consider this not a microphone, but a Soft Reset and forcefully poke it with a variety of sharp objects and this leads to damage to the microphone). Nearby is a slot for a microSD memory card. There are no plugs, and this allows you to easily remove and insert the memory card. Without any, please note, any effort. I was also pleased with the connector for charging and connecting to a PC. The cable is inserted with little effort, but sits there very firmly and confidently. And if in previous models the owners managed to loosen the nest until it shook, then this trick is unlikely to work here. The stylus is located slightly to the right. It sits there quite firmly and does not cause any complaints.

The upper part was distinguished only by the proud GPS inscription and an eyelet for attaching a lanyard (again, an improvement compared to its “parents” - glofiish X500/X500+ - a small thing, but nice). I tested wearing the device on the neck. Due to the fact that it is small and light, there were no problems. Although wearing it for a long time will probably make your neck hurt.

The back part has a speaker-mesh and a camera with a mirror; there is no flash in the communicator, which is not very pleasant. The cover has a proud Windows Mobile logo and can be removed by gently pressing down. Under the battery there is a compartment for sim cards, which was used in the first glofishes. I can’t say for sure whether this is good or bad, but the SIM card was quite easy to insert and remove.

E-Ten Glofiish x600 - replaces its predecessor E-TEN Glofiish x500 and is opposed to HTC 3300 (Artemis). These two communicators actually set the standard on the market in the winter-spring of 2007 and became the most popular models in terms of sales volume. But it’s nice to know that the engineers of this company took into account most of the wishes regarding the X500 and X500+ and made a continuation in this line. In general, the ergonomics and build quality are excellent.

    Display E-TEN Glofiish X600

The screen of the device measures 2.8”, which has become the norm for the Glofiish series and is optimal for convenient use of the communicator: on the one hand, not too much, when the communicator is already simply inconvenient to use as a phone, on the other hand, not too small, when it would be trivial not to It is convenient to work with a stylus due to the smallness of the elements on the screen. The device has a resolution of 320x240 (qVGA) and 65,538 colors, and the display itself is made using TFT-LCD technology. In the sun the screen goes a little blind.

In the dark, with minimum brightness settings, the screen does not hurt the eyes and, in combination with the white backlighting of the keys, looks visually harmonious. By the way, the backlight has eleven levels and it is still possible to automatically adjust depending on the battery level.

    Performance of E-TEN Glofiish x600

The Samsung processor in the E-TEN Glofiish X600 is labeled S3C2442 and clocked at 400 MHz. Yes Yes. I was not mistaken. Everything is exactly like that. Here I completely agree with the manufacturer and believe that there is no need to build more than 400 MHz into a device with a QVGA screen. Moreover, competitors with similar models in the same price category (HTC 3300 and HTC Touch) still focus on 200 MHz. And so it is completely enough for a variety of needs. During testing of the device, no brakes were observed. Although the device was tested on many parameters.

As can be seen from the table and the data above, the Glofiish X600 is in many ways faster than its relatives and even its small colleagues (HTC Touch and HTC 3300 with a 200 MHz processor).

As a result of testing our proprietary videos in the TCPMP Version 0.71 program, the following data was obtained:

As a result of testing the video, I will say that the results met expectations. Let me also remind you that 120% is considered a good result. We received 230.62% for QVGA (converted video) and 96% for VGA (non-converted video). By the way, when watching VGA video (with medium settings), there were no visual stutters at all.

Memory in the device RAM: 64Mb RAM / ROM 128Mb ROM. Unfortunately, there is not so much RAM, but as we already wrote in the X800 review, this is not a whim of the manufacturer, but a limitation of the current generation of Samsung processors - this is exactly the explanation given to our resource by Mikhail Fadeev, a representative of E-TEN in Russia. By the way, almost none of the manufacturers now offers more RAM than the specified 64 MB, which, albeit indirectly, confirms the opinion of the E-TEN company representative. We can only hope that in the new year (2008) this manufacturer will release (as promised) devices with a new generation of processors.

As a general result, we can emphasize that the device fully copes with the assigned tasks.

    Multimedia E-TEN Glofiish x600

The speaker volume in this model is above average. The volume level has increased slightly compared to the glofiish X500/X500+. The call is likely to be heard by the owner even in the noisiest places. If anything happens, a vibration alert will come to the rescue, which E-TEN has at a traditionally high level.

The clarity of the microphone was also not satisfactory. When testing the device, not a single interlocutor complained that nothing could be heard. Overall the results are good.

The volume in the headphones was a pleasant surprise. The headphones fit tightly into your ear, thereby blocking all unnecessary sounds and leaving only what you listen to through the communicator. It's nice to know that the small disadvantage that previous Glofiishes were endowed with has been eliminated. I sincerely hope that all subsequent models from this manufacturer will be equipped with this headset.

The camera in the E-TEN Glofiish x600 is two megapixels, does not have autofocus and flash (flashlight), but overall takes good photographs. Examples of photographs are presented above.

    Communications E-TEN Glofiish x600

The built-in four-band GSM module (850/900/1800/1900) did not show any failures during the testing period. Calls came and went to any subscribers. EDGE confidently kept the connection in all places except the metro and tried not to break it. Of course, a lot depends on your cellular operator.

Included with the device under test was the Navitel Navigator 3.0 satellite navigation software package, intended for use in conjunction with a GPS receiver. The test results weren't surprising, but they weren't disappointing either. Everything is the same as other communicators in the Glofiish series. The SirfStar III chip quickly found satellites even during a cold start. We tested the device with Navitel, Autosputnik, and i-Go programs. In all cases, there were no complaints about the communicator itself.

WiFi – I was only surprised by the fact that a new program is used to use it (but more on that in the section describing pre-installed programs). Otherwise, everything is unchanged. The module clearly caught all possible networks, even with a low signal, and held them tenaciously. I was completely and completely satisfied with the result.

The FM receiver and its shell remained unchanged. The radio reception was no worse than on special radio receivers, even with a retractable antenna. We managed to check this at the dacha (over 100 km.)

The Bluetooth module has version 2.0 and supports the A2DP profile for working with wireless stereo headsets. File transfers are much faster thanks to EDR support.

Preset software on E-TEN Glofiish x600

Backup Utility – designed to quickly create a backup of the necessary information. One of the most useful among the pre-installed programs. Personally, I don’t need analogues, and it’s always been enough.

Battery Meter – shows the battery charge level.

Connection Wizard – allows you to automatically configure a GPRS (EDGE) connection for most well-known cellular operators. And not only Russian ones. It is worth noting that if you have your own specific parameters, you can add them to the settings.

GPS Viewer - the main purpose of this program is to check the functionality of the GPS module when purchasing a communicator and obtain coordinates. That's all. It was not possible to find any more practical applications for this program. In addition, a sin was noticed behind her. It opens fully (normally) and only works for a while. After this, for unknown reasons, the program stops seeing satellites. This fact can frighten the owners of the communicator and create the feeling of a broken GPS module. But this is a mistaken opinion. Everything is fine and working. You just need to restart the program.

Location SMS - the program is useful only because it can determine the coordinates of your location and send them via SMS to someone.

M-Desk is a kind of downloader necessary programs. Passed by inheritance from one Glofiish to all subsequent ones. There is not much practical application, especially if you install third-party software for these purposes.

Task Manager - task manager. Allows you to view a list of running programs and, if necessary, close (or switch from one to another) all of them at once or separately. Useful and easy program.

Quick Bar is a kind of menu with the ability to quickly launch the following programs:

    1) Changing the screen orientation (portrait or landscape)
    2) Switching between alert settings profiles
    3) Turning on the standard media player (there is also a version of the program where instead of a player there is a flashlight, but this communicator no longer has it)
    4) Launch the Task Manager program
    5) Messages
    6) Explorer
    7) Calculator
    8) Wireless Manager
    9) FM - Tuner

Here, in general, are all 9 of the most necessary programs. It’s just a pity that there is no way to change the programs and their order yourself. But something tells me that such an opportunity will appear in the future.

SPB Mobile Shell -Also (as in the Glofiish X800) there was the SPB Mobile Shell program, which implements a new generation user interface, while retaining all the features of a Windows Mobile-based PDA.

    Its main characteristics:

    1) All the most important information on one screen

    2) Phone style menu

    3) Weather forecasts

    4) Speed dial from photo

    5) Fast application launch

A very useful and convenient program. Perhaps one of the most interesting among those preinstalled in the communicator.

Cost and place on the market E-TEN Glofiish x600

I can definitely say that E-TEN Glofiish will appeal to many. And not only for men, but also for women. Coupled with decent technical components, the device turned out to be of very high quality. Expected price – 15 thousand rubles. The communicator will certainly be a very good competitor to analogues from other manufacturers - the “old man” HTC 3300 Artemis and the new product from the same manufacturer HTC 3450 Touch. If you don’t need a VGA screen, but at the same time you want everything in one, plus compact dimensions, and so that all this does not equal exorbitant prices, then the device is definitely for you.

    Pros of E-TEN Glofiish x600:
