The authoritative Internet resource PhoneArena has published its thoughts on the release date and price of smartwatches Samsung Gear S4 (Galaxy Watch). Just a few days ago they (ECE) and also it became known that they can (rebrand Android Wear), and not Tizen OS, like previous models.
Rumors about this watch have been circulating online for a long time, and it is not surprising since, along with the Google Pixel and Apple Watch Series 4, the Gear S4 is one of the most anticipated gadgets this year. If we recall the history of the release of previous models, they were shown at the IFA 2015 exhibition in Berlin on August 31. Exactly a year later, on August 31, 2016, they showed at the same exhibition.
In 2017, the S4 was not shown, as many expected, but Samsung presented it instead. And, again, the presentation took place on August 31st. It is logical to assume that the Gear S4 may be presented at IFA 2018, on August 31, 2018, and will go on sale sometime in October.
If everything is more or less clear and understandable with the release date, then with the price everything is a little more complicated. Here, again, it’s worth remembering the pricing of early models. The Gear S2 launched at $299 for the Sport version and $349 for the Classic. The next S3 appeared with the price of the classic 2015 model - $349. The Gear Sport launched at $299, the same as the Gear S2 Sport.
Gear S4, or now Galaxy Watch, will presumably be released in two different versions - classic and sports. Each of them will have two body sizes, and a version with and without LTE support. None of these models will cost less than $349 for the base version, but they likely won't cost much more either.
It’s very interesting to talk about the wearable electronics market - primarily because almost any opinions and forecasts fit here: both, and, and in different proportions. And it seems that Samsung itself has not yet fully decided. On the one hand, the company has some success in this industry (), on the other hand, the performance at IFA 2017 itself is somewhat puzzling.
Yes, no one was expecting some kind of bomb - the times when Samsung showed off its flagship smartphones at the Berlin exhibition are long gone. But the banquet was expected to continue with the main watch of the Koreans - Gear S, which basically brought the company second place in sales of wearable electronics. Well, the expectations were not justified - just as, apparently, the expectations for smartwatches in general were not very justified. No revolution has occurred, and wearable electronics are of interest mainly to people involved in sports or at least leading healthy image life - and accustomed to helping themselves with this with gadgets.
Samsung showed the Gear Sport watch instead of the Gear S4. Their main property is water resistance: the watch can, in theory, withstand immersion to a depth of 50 meters. Moreover, this did not affect the design too much - the Gear Sport looks quite elegant, not reminiscent of some harsh “military” devices or rugged gadgets, for example, those made by Caterpillar. Control is due to a combination of a pair of buttons on the right side, a rotating bezel and a touch screen. By default, the watch is offered in black and blue, but the straps can be changed to suit your taste.
The screen is, as usual, Super AMOLED, diagonal - 1.2 inches, resolution - 360 × 360 pixels. Working with it is quite comfortable - not only flipping through various screens (the operating system is Tizen, of course), but also selecting relatively small icons in the settings. Technical parameters: dual-core processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, 768 MB random access memory, 4 GB non-volatile, Bluetooth 4.2 modules, Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou navigation.
The watch can count steps (although today almost all gadgets in general can do this), and pulse. You can enter consumed calories - the built-in application will count them and make recommendations depending on your parameters and priorities. From the stage, Samsung boasted of its partnership with the famous swimming equipment manufacturer Speedo, which has developed an application (or at least given its name) that can analyze various things related to water exercises. For example, count the number of rowing movements during a swim. Well, at the same time it unites swimmers into a kind of community - where would it be without this. They also announced partnerships with Under Armor and Spotify, which in turn created applications for Tizen.
Of course, notifications are displayed on the watch screen, with their help you can pay for purchases (Samsung Pay); the possibility of using Gear Sport as a control panel for the ecosystem of Samsung smart things and various multimedia devices - even Gear VR helmets - has also been announced.
The battery capacity is 300 mAh. They promise up to four days without recharging, and with continuously working GPS - up to 14 hours. There is wireless charging. No details on price or on-sale dates were provided. Moreover, they didn’t let me really try the watch for myself: in the demo area, it was tightly attached to the holders, making it almost impossible to examine it in detail. A very strange approach.
The same approach, in fact, was applied when demonstrating Fit2 Pro - Samsung's new fitness bracelets. At the same time, the price for them was announced - $200. On sale date: September 15th.
All technical details of Fit2 Pro are also already known. This is a “simplified” version of the Gear Sport - with the same fitness capabilities (accelerometer, barometer, GPS, heart rate tracking, Speedo On app), Super AMOLED touch display (this time 1.5-inch, with a resolution of 216 × 432 points), dual-core processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB flash drive, adapters wireless communication Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou receiver.
The design is again universal. The black and red case and strap will look good with casual wear and while running/swimming. However, with the lighting that Samsung for some reason put in the demo area, it was difficult to see the bracelet properly. And again we have to complain about the unique approach to organizing the presentation.
The Fit2 Pro case should also withstand immersion to a depth of 50 meters. The capacity of the built-in battery is 200 mAh, charging is only contact (POGO).
The third "active" Samsung gadget shown at the presentation is wireless in-ear headphones IconX 2018. They could be called “the answer to AirPods”, if not for the fact that their previous version came out earlier than the sensational Apple headset. The trick of IconX 2018 is the same - each headphone is autonomous, and they are charged in pairs using a special case. About automatic “pairing” with Samsung smartphone No one spoke when opening the box. It's a pity, this nifty feature remains the main advantage of AirPods for now.
You can control IconX 2018 using the touch surface or your voice - the new generation of headphones is friendly with Bixby. There are 4 GB of built-in memory. The headphones, of course, are weightless, but they fit well in the ears - I liked them much more in this regard than similar ones from Apple. However, this is not for everyone.
Operating time has been increased: up to 7 hours in playback mode and up to 4 hours in talk mode. The sound quality could not be assessed. Despite the only black color stated in the press release, gray and pink IconX were spotted in the demo area. There is no information about moisture protection, which could allow you to listen to music during swimming lessons, which Samsung places such a noticeable emphasis on. Most likely, it simply does not exist (the maximum is splash protection). Just as there is no information yet about their price and release date - the situation here is the same as with Gear Sport.
The most interesting, perhaps, non-wearable device presented at the Samsung press conference is the CH890 monitor with a 34-inch curved display with a resolution of 3440 × 1440 pixels. Yes, yes, the format here is 32:9. Moreover, proprietary QLED technology is used and support for the HDR10 standard is announced. The most important gaming characteristics are also in order - frequency 144 Hz, image refresh time - 1 ms. Unfortunately, the monitor did not make it into the demo zone; it was not possible to examine this monster in detail. No details like price and release date have been reported either.
Of course, Samsung couldn’t help but touch on the topic of household appliances - after all, this is IFA. We didn’t see anything supernatural: a refrigerator with a hefty screen, for which applications are supplied by more than 100 partners, will not surprise us, nor will the next fastest washing machine or a compact battery-powered vacuum cleaner that is very easy to clean. But this is a slightly different story.
There are two main players in the smartwatch market: Apple and Samsung. And if new Apple Watch models are consistently released every year (albeit with minimal differences), then a new generation of smart watches Samsung users They've been waiting for the second year (Gear Sport was just a sports version of the Gear S3). And in anticipation of the imminent announcement of new watches from the Korean company, I collected all the available information about them.
Let's start with perhaps the most unobvious: Samsung's new smart watch may get a new name. For quite a long time it was assumed that the device would be called Gear S4, but recent rumors suggest that the new product could be released under the name Galaxy Watch. Possible rebranding is most likely associated with the use of a different operating system, but we’ll talk about that later.
It is obvious that Samsung will update the hardware in the Gear S4, since the company's current line of smartwatches runs on two-year-old hardware (Gear S3 Classic/Frontier, Gear Sport). Insider @UniverseIce reports that the watch will have an increased battery compared to the previous generation: 470 mAh versus 380 mAh.
About Gear S4 (probably called Galaxy Watch) Based on Android Wear, 470mAh battery, PLP package, it is expected to have new UX interaction and blood pressure measurement.
In addition, there is information that the Gear S4 will be released in two sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm (similar to the Apple Watch). It is also likely that the smartwatch will be released in two versions: classic and more sporty, just like the Gear S3 (Classic/Frontier), and will be available with or without an LTE module.
Here's the fun part: Samsung may replace the Tizen operating system with Wear OS! And this is a rather unexpected decision, because Tizen has proven its effectiveness in previous generations of Samsung smartwatches. The reason for this decision is still unknown, but it is quite possible that the watch will be called Galaxy Watch precisely to separate itself from the Gear S line, all watches in which run on Tizen.
Samsung has already released smart watches on Android - the Galaxy Gear model
As for the features of the new smartwatch, they will have a pressure sensor and will also be assembled using the Panel Level Packaging (PLP) manufacturing process. This means that the chipset will take up less space, allowing you to install a larger battery.
Gear S2 and Gear S3 Frontier
It is expected that the Gear S4 at the start of sales will be priced the same as the Gear S3 - at $349. The Apple Watch, the main competitor of the Samsung Gear S4, has the same starting price.
The announcement of new Samsung smart watches should take place in August. Perhaps they will be shown on August 9 at the Galaxy Unpacked event dedicated to the presentation of the Galaxy Note 9. There is also an option that the watch will be presented on August 31, just like previous models.
But the Gear S4 will not go on sale immediately, but in October-November of this year.
Are you looking forward to the Gear S4 (Galaxy Watch)? How do you feel about the possible transition to Wear OS? What would you like to see in the new watch?

Today, the smart watch market is at the peak of its popularity. Statistics show demand has increased by a quarter over the past few years. The mobile device combines the basic functions of a smartphone, is more convenient to use and looks very stylish. The heroes of the review are the Samsung Gear S4 smart watch.
After the release of GearS3, the developer planned to make a revolution. The September technology exhibition went more or less as expected and smoothly. Manufacturers did not make technological breakthroughs. Sales of smartwatches provide Samsung with second place in sales after Apple. However, the devices are famous for their high cost and paleness in comparison with their first competitors.
The new watch from Samsung was supposed to be one of the most anticipated events of the coming year. The manufacturers decided to make a small surprise by presenting the model at a recent exhibition in Germany. The previous Gear S3 model turned out to be quite interesting and was able to compete with its closest competitor, the giant in the field of smart technologies - Apple. But the device lacked a sports component. The Samsung Gear S4 is not so much independent as it is an addition to the Gear S3. Gear sport is designed to eliminate the sporting shortcoming.
The devices are mainly of interest to professional athletes and people leading a healthy lifestyle. The main function of the fitness tracker is to display general body indicators on the screen. You can measure your heart rate, distance traveled and calories burned.
It is expected that the Samsung Gear s4 smartwatch will be presented in 2 versions:

Samsung patented new technology touch strap, in theory equipped with a flexible screen. It sounds like an episode of a fantasy saga, but the Korean giant already has similar solutions.
As for the screen, rumors say it will be round and slightly curved at the edges. It may look very stylish and fresh, but the convenience and, most importantly, the benefit of the modification remains in question. The diagonal will remain the same 1.2 inches with a resolution of 360 * 360.
Gear Sport, presented in the German capital, boasts water resistance. Of course, this is not news for the smart device market. Many watches have protection against dust and water, but sports gear has dived deeper. In theory, they can be submerged to a depth of 50 meters. Similar products can boast of being tolerant of rain and small amounts of water. It is not recommended to immerse them to depth.
From point of view appearance and style, the device looks very good. Doesn't look strictly military. Manage smart watch You can use several buttons on the bezel and using the touch screen, as in previous models. By default, the watch is designed in black and blue, but the straps can be replaced at the discretion of users.

It is curious that the new product will be presented two weeks earlier than its direct rival – smart watches from Apple. This is often a very significant point, because manufacturers compete with each other not only on technical specifications devices produced, and in terms of audience coverage. Now, according to statistics, smart watches from a South Korean manufacturer are chosen by 5% of buyers, but devices from the Apple company are preferred in 14% of cases.

The previous model from the Gear S line had good features and reliability. But she lost in certain parameters compared to latest version Apple Watch. The development company decided to take into account all the disadvantages, because the new product of 2017 will combine flagship solutions within itself, becoming more “sporty”.

The interior of the watch will be superior in its features to all its closest rivals. Samsung Gear The S4 will be equipped with an abundance of different detectors that will be able to track the physical characteristics of its owner. He believes that the model will be a good replacement for smart watches of previous generations that the company has ever produced. But the company representative did not reveal all the aspects with which the new device will attract attention. What is clear today is that the Gear S4 contains many different biometric sensors. So far there is a gear s2 smart watch on the market, what will the gear s4 be like, iPhone 8 release date;. In this regard, the model significantly eclipsed its predecessors.
Representatives of the development company previously announced their desire to connect a phone and a fitness bracelet, drawing all the most useful things from these devices. A fresh modification of a wearable gadget from Samsung could become a hit this fall, including in Russia, especially if the developers meet the following consumer expectations:
