On Dashkova’s initiative, the first explanatory dictionary of the Russian language was published. She participated in its composition and took upon herself the explanation of words "related to morality, politics and government."
Under the leadership of Ekaterina Romanovna Dashkova, the magazine “Interlocutor of Lovers of the Russian Word” was published, in which she attracted many talented writers to participate. During her travels, Dashkova compiled a herbarium and a collection of minerals; she donated this “natural cabinet,” containing 151,212 items, to Moscow University.
Dashkova seriously studied gardening. On her Troitskoye estate near Moscow, she planted flowers that were famous throughout the area.

The goddaughter of Empress Elizabeth, a friend of Catherine II even before her accession to the throne, Dashkova spent a significant part of her life in disgrace and exile. “...Despite the fact that I was Countess Vorontsova by my father and Princess Dashkova by my husband, I always felt awkward at court,” she wrote in her “Notes.”
She is smart and educated, her horizons are broad, her character is active, her judgments are independent - where could she adapt to the world of court gossip, servility and routine. Not the all-powerful temporary workers, but Voltaire and Diderot were her friends and interlocutors. She did not long play a brilliant role at court, which seemed destined for her by birth and political events. But in the history of Russian culture, the Russian Enlightenment, Ekaterina Romanovna Dashkova undoubtedly plays a significant role.

The meaning of the name Ekaterina
The name comes from another ancient Greek - Khaikaterine. Today the latter is practically not used. The first mention of Catherine was discovered by historians in the Moscow census of the late 30s of the 17th century. The enormous popularity that the name gained over time was influenced by the reign of Catherine the Great. Today she can be called the most famous bearer of this name.
